The Xtensis approach and architecture are designed around the following principles:
- Different users have different requirements. Locating relevant materials is all about understanding the needs of the individual - not just exposing all available content and functionality to all users.
- Repositories are more than just static containers of content, with a search engine tacked on. Successful repositories are built around communities, each with its own requirements and priorities in terms of interface, functionality and content selection criteria.
- Such lines may be drawn by subject, sector, security level, job role, technical ability, browser and platform used, accessibility (physical or learning difficulties), language, preferred learning style, and many others.
- In our experience, it is only by understanding and fostering such community needs that a repository system can truly flourish.
